The marina at Mackay was nice and we were able to get a excellent coffee in the morning after negotiating all the locked gates into and out of the facility without a key.

The plan was to sail to Percy Island. The wind said that was a bad plan. We sailed through the night on a 28 hour voyage covering 240 nautical miles. There was quite a bit of tacking involved and there was also a lot more wind than was forecast.

On the way out of Mackay we sailed out through a massive ship car park. There must have been over 30 bulk carriers sitting empty at anchor out to sea – some well out of sight of the land. I got an aerial shot of some of the boats as we flew over on the way into Hamilton Island the other day.

The sailing through the night was interesting being on rotating 3 hour watches. I made the mistake of going down below on an errand at once stage and ended up chucking my lunch into the sink.

We did see plenty more whales and then some dolphins this morning.

I got some good shots of the waves on the Keppel Island group as we passed close by to them on the run into Yeppoon.

In Yeppoon we gratefully headed for the shower after getting the boat ship shape. Then it was a quick bus ride into town, grocery shopping and an awesome works burger and chips thanks to Adrian’s previous experience here.

Now we are sitting in the boat listening to the wind gust up beyond 25 knots and that means we wont be going anywhere tonight. Once the wind drops we will be heading directly to Mooloolaba on a 3 day 2 night trip.
