Weekend Wrap up

I love having weekends off. I decided not to work this weekend and it was a great time.

I am going back to Thursday, because I took Thursday night off as well. After work I went to the park in the late afternoon / early evening with the kids. I dug a big sandcastle with the shovel including a tunnel through the castle wall. The kids had lots of fun playing this – and the games they thought up were amazing.

Friday night I also took off and we watched a movie together before I watched the tour De France with a mate.

Sports fest

I have been absolutely spoilt for sport on TV this weekend.

Last night, Venus beat Serena in the Wimbledon ladies final and the Tour de France got away in 2008 for the first stage, a non prologue stage for the first time since 1967. A fascinating race as the breakaway group was reeled back in and the race won by Valverde in an almighty sprint.

The Silverstone British Grand Prix, a very eventful race in the on and off again rain. Lewis Hamilton drove a very safe race to come out eventual winner. His tyre choice could have been questioned but proved the right combination in the end.

The second stage of the 2008 Tour de France was as interesting as yesterdays first stage and saw Thor Hushovd win in a close sprint.

Finally the men's Tennis. I didn't watch most of the first set, only switching over occasionally, but Roger Federer lost the first set to Nadal. The unthinkable continued with a second set taken by Rafael.

Roger came out firing in the third set knowing he needed an early break and to win 3 sets in a row. The last time Roger dropped the first two sets at Wimbledon was in 2002.

Weekend Round up

So much happened I cant write it all down but some summaries will have to do.

Football - played 2 games in the tournament - damaged my hamstring again though not badly - however will be needing some work on it. Played full forward for about 15 minutes and kicked a behind, got a tackle that went un rewarded, missed another kick and had 3 coring opportunities where the ball kicked to me didn't come straight to me and I couldn't mark it. Still hd lots of fun and the team is starting to gel. The rest of the time I played in defence and laid a lot of tackles and disposed of the ball cleanly. The coach said afterward I had clean hands. Oh and I had a contested mark inside 50 that I went back to kick, but one of our players ran into space in the pocket so I kicked to him, and his kick was touched on the line.
