Just a few things I have come across today.

Microsoft have announced a new tool - invite2messenger.net. This a tool that lets users invite their friends from partner social networks (Facebook, Bebo, Hi5, Tagged and LinkedIn) to WindowsLive Messenger.

Thanks to the Mark Harrison for the heads up.

I invited my facebook friends and already some of them have added me.

Live Office Fix for Vista Users

As reported previously I was unable to get the live office connection to work for me. However after checking out the Live Workspaces Forum today I found some help - installing an update to Vista worked for me.

I will post all the instructions provided as they cannot be linked to specifically and will get lost in a long forum thread.

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the Office Live Add-in. Here are a few things to try to resolve the issues:

Lots of Links

Following a is a list of cool stuff I didn't have time to write individual posts about.

Random Web stuff

MyOpenID - If you don't know what OpenID is, think of it this way, one sign in authentication process for every website that supports it. Drupal 6 has it, Yahoo has it, lots of places have it - learn more about OpenID and get your own.

Tagurself - enter a feed link or a url and it generates a tag cloud for you.

TeamViewer - excellent remote desktop sharing software - and its free!

Microsoft SharedView - remote connection - sharing applications - great for training people how to do things remotely.

Online File Storage and Sharing

MPj04223160000[1]We have been reviewing a number of online storage solutions for file sharing. So far we have looked at Eat Lime (see our review), Box.net and Windows Sky drive, and in recent days the Windows Live Office option. However We have found a varying degree of success for each of these.

Today I want to ask you to try and connect to each of my public areas and see which is the easiest to use from your perspective. I have the same file in each place. Let me know in the comments.

I have also added some commentary here on each of the main functions of the systems.

Getting Live Writer to play nicely with Drupal

Getting Live Writer to play nicely with Drupal wasn't as easy as it seemed. When following the default setup all I was able to do was get the blog to connect. That meant I couldn't create other types of content (images, polls, pages etc) from Live Writer. I use the page content type for my non blog related posts, as I have family and friends etc who only want to read the personal blog entries and don't want all the technical guff I stick on here appearing in their RSS readers.

After a bit of Googling I found this comment on the Drupal website

Here are my revised instructions:

10 Useful Plugins for Windows Live Writer

Windows Live Writer is a desktop application that makes it easy to publish content to your blog. The software is intuitive and powerful, but, every now and then, there is something that it can't do or could be done in a better way. Overtime though developers have provided several solutions to these problems. Sarah from Microsoft's Channel 10 has written a great article introducing ten plugins for Windows Live Writer. The ten plugins she thinks are the must haves for bloggers:

1. Digg This Plugin for Live Writer:
The Digg This plugin inserts a "Digg This" button to your Windows Live Writer posts and provides seamless integration with Digg.

Mobile Computing

Technology is amazing. We can utilise the tech tools available to us these days in remarkable ways.

I am currently sitting in a train listening to music on my Zen while writing this blog post on my tablet PC using a digital pen.

I have just finished reviewing notes for a client workshop I am heading into the city to. First I opened my email & opened some excel files to review some settings & details we are going to be discussing. Second I copied the meeting agenda to One Note so I will be able to make notes as we go in the workshop. Third I printed my quote for the work to be done from a PDF attached to an email to OneNote so I can easily refer to it in the meeting. Finally I opened Windows Live Writer to compose this blog post. It will get published as soon as I get back online.
